The Observatorio Astronomico de Cantabria begin tracking the new life cycle of the Sun.
The Observatorio Astronomico de Cantabria (OAC) has begun tracking the new life cycle of the Sun The action of the Ministry of the Environment for research has an instrumentation that allows to observe safe spots and solar flares, an activity that develops from 2007.

The OAC is working with the Solar Influences Data analysis Center (SIDC) of the Royal Observatory of Belgium, which coordinates a worldwide network of observatories dedicated to monitoring of this star. Since the installation of Environment, anyone can see the spots and solar flares live making a reservation on the website of the Observatorio Astronomico de Cantabria.
The life cycle of the Sun is a period of activity that has the star, eleven-year average which was characterized by the increase and decrease the number of sunspots from an initial minimum to the next. Cycles are also occurring nine years and other reaches thirteen. This phenomenon was discovered by Heinrich Schwabe, a pharmacist from Dessau (Germany) in 1843.
From then until now, there have been full fifteen cycles. The latter had its maximum between 2000 and 2002, and in recent years has experienced the minimum. This minimum was the lowest solar activity since 1913 and more protracted than expected. However,Montano_is_very_positive_experiencey, since last January has returned to the increased activity, sunspots are becoming more frequent, and it is unusual to observe days without spots. The sun begins to wake moving toward the next maximum, which is expected to take place around 2013.
The oac restart their activities
The OAC, to restart their activities with the public on March 19, is an educational resource of the Ministry of the Environment, born with the vocation to become a focal point of educational activities, educational and scientific in Astronomy, and related activities, in the region.
The Observatory is managed CIMA and involving the University of Cantabria, through the Instituto de Fisica de Cantabria (IFCA) and the Cantabrian Astronomical Association (CAA). It is located in the Paramo de La Lora, for the optimum conditions for observing, in terms of the Neighborhood Board Rebollar de Ebro, Valderredible.
From the dome, four meters in diameter, are made the observations, both visual (in public) and instrumental (for scientific purposes.) At the same, are located the main telescope secondary. The main telescope of forty centimeters in diameter, is equipped with a CCD camera, a spectrograph and a photometer. The telescope secondary,The_workshop_39Creative_Partners39_startsa, ten centimeters in diameter, is mainly used for solar observations.
The OAC offers activities, observations and visits. Therefore, interested persons may make your reservation through www.observatorioastronomicocantabria.com or phone 676 965 003 (from Wednesday to Sunday, 12:30 to 14:00 hours and 18:00 to 20:00).
